Coast to Coast offers winter and summer tryouts and camps at professional baseball complexes in Arizona, Florida and Puerto Rico.  Here is a bit of info directly from the Coast to Coast site:

Coast to Coast Baseball was formed with the express purpose of providing young amateurs with a taste of what it is like to play the game at its highest levels. The program is open to players between the ages 11 and 18, the majority of whom are selected at open tryouts held in 30-35 states annually.  The organization also accepts athletes that have been recommended directly by a college coach or professional scout. Once chosen, players may elect to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico, or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at one of our Florida or Arizona Camp & Showcase events held at a MLB spring-training complex.

Swingtraining.net will be working along side a staff of college & professional level coaches and scouts to provide on-field instruction in all areas of the game.  In addtion, “classroom” sessions will be held in order to address areas such as recruiting, training, and other baseball-related areas.

This is a great baseball camp and instructional event in the Palm Beach area – make sure you check out Coast to Coast.

I will be at the NSCA Sport-Specific Training Conference in Orlando this weekend.  I have a short 20-minute “From the Field” presentation on Friday at 12:20, where I’ll talk about overload-underload training and drills for bat speed development.  Send me a message if you’ll be there…….

The 2009 Perfect Game World Wood Bat Championship is coming up this month  – October 22-26 – at the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Florida.  I went last year and saw a lot of the best amateur talent in the country, so I’m looking forward to more of the same this year.  Here is the tournament description from their site:

This will be the 11th annual WWBA World Championship. It is held each year in Jupiter, FL. Considered by many as the top amateur baseball tournament in the world, it consists of 80 of the top elite travel teams from across the US, Canada, and Latin America. Past champions include Perfect Game USA (1999), Baseball America (2000, 2002), Miami Sluggers (2001), East Cobb Astros (2003, Co-2005), Houston Heat (2004), Chet Lemon’s Juice (Co-2005), Reds Scout Team (2006), Braves Scout Team (2007)

I’ll be on the road again next week, this time heading to Indianapolis, Indiana to visit my alma mater, Butler University.  It’s another alumni weekend, so I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and teammates.  It will be nice to see the upgrades to the ballpark, which I missed out on when I visited last February.

I was able to sit down and just chat with the coaching staff last spring and see the beginnings of spring practice on the new turf football field, but this will be a better opportunity to see the guys in action, even if it is against a group of alumni.  I also want to check out the new indoor hitting facility, which will be a huge asset to the program.

To get things going, I will be heading to my hometown Rochester, NY this week (Wed.-Sun.) mainly to talk hitting and off-season training with Rochester Institute of Technology baseball, softball and strength & conditioning coaches.  Very similar to what I did during my graduate school days at Louisiana Tech.

Also should be doing a follow up to a TV interview that I did with RIT Sportszone, which had previously come to Florida to catch up with myself and another former Tiger, so look for that episode in the near future.

Lots of friends and family in the area, so it should be a busy trip.
